He looked across the large ballroom at the many faces one stood out it was what he liked to call a “buffy vampire”. The one that you know was gay. Always having his pinky finger pointed up or in the corner of his mouth. This one was so obvious that he had drawn a crowd. He would certainly be an easy meal for many here tonight. Once upon a time, so many stories start this way and for good reason. I 
have a once upon a time of my own. It happened about one hundred and seventy years ago if I am recalling correctly. I was part of a small group of vampires that moved in to this little town of unsuspecting meals. We liked to be compared to the vamps in that silly show buffy vampire slayer. She went to the mailbox to collect her mail. There were some bills junk mail, and an invitation. Excitedly she ran back to the house to open the invitation. What would it be she wondered? It was in a beautiful black envelope with gold print, sealed with one of those old waxed seals. Dropping everything but the invitation on the table, she opened it carefully.
Enclosed was a single black piece of paper with the words inscribed in gold ink. Your invited to a Vampire Masquerade, please dress the part. You will be picked up at 8pm on Thursday. She sat down not giving a thought as to where this would be or who sent it. Instead, starting thinking about what to wear, something dark with a cape, or maybe something sexy and yet innocent. She had never been to a masquerade or a Vampire masquerade. Maybe the curious goods store in town would have some false teeth she could wear. The ‘Vampire Knights’ are in short supply for the large never ending task that needs to be done. We are few, but we are fierce. Our swords are the wooden stakes we use to drive into the black hearts of the Vampires we find in our travels.
The Vatican has had vampire hunters for centuries we are a small branch off from some of the last known men and women that took this job. We fight knowing we are on the side of the people and God. Some of our actions and reactions are not Godly by any means. We call ourselves the vampire knightms just so they know who they are messing with.
Doing this is a foul and demanding job. We break into the hidden dark, and damp places where their coffins lie, just waiting for us to attack while they sleep. This is no picnic either they do not all sleep, and their power and strength is immense. If the adrenaline, were to let you down it would be certain death. My name is Cracker I work for a little hole in the wall paper called ‘vampire diaries’. I came here as a teenager looking to gain some writing experience. It paid well, but the stories were, to say the least, more than a bit out there.
My first assignment I remember was to blend in at a beach party for a local high school. That would be both easy and hard for me. I was a teenager that part was no problem, but I am also extremely white, hence the name Cracker. I went to what seemed to be just a normal party. Lots of kids a few random adults, and of course all the beer they could drink.
It was well after dark when I noticed the crowd starting to thin out. My story for the vampire diaries was a bit weak so far. My editor was going to be pissed if he saw this. I immediately noticed that there was a fight going on, on the far side of the group. I went close enough to hear and hardly could see the smoke from the bonfire was clouding them.
That was when I saw the older man reach out and pull the girl close to him. I almost looked away thinking he was going to make out with her, but no. Read the rest of this entry »
